There are many opportunities that arise that make for interesting trading in the Pre-Market and After-Hours Sessions of the Stock Market.
This usually occurs during 'Reporting Season' when all Companies are required by SEC Regulations to report their Quarterly and Year End Numbers.
This can cause extreme volatility very quickly in the share price of a Stock, if their Numbers exceed, or come up short of Analysts Expectations.
Another cause of this Volatility is when a Company reports either very good, or very bad news in an Official Press Release. This increased Volatility of the share price can be used to a Traders advantage.
World Events that happen during these sessions can also have a profound effect on the Stock Market as a whole, and any stocks that are trading during these Sessions when disasterous News hits the Wires, can move drastically to the downside.
Trading in the Pre-Market or After-Hours Sessions should not be attempted by the novice trader.
This style of trading can reap HUGE rewards, but the risk factor is also greatly increased.
It is possible to lose a LOT of money in these sessions if you do not have a good understanding of the mechanics involved.
I have watched the movements in the Pre-Market & After-Hours Session on the stock YHOO every time it has reported Numbers over the last ten years.
I am very familiar with the way it moves and am able to capitalize on these moves with good success.
As you can see from the top chart in the left column, YHOO fell almost $5.00 in just THREE Minutes! when it reported Numbers on 1-17-06

I follow many other stocks, and keep up with the News and SEC Filings they put out, and I also know what day they are due to Report their Numbers.
This allows me to watch their chart in the Pre-Market or After-hours Session, and to be ready to trade them as they are about to make some very Large moves in their share price.
